Q:
Get child count from parent in nested select
I am trying to build an object of child types on an object that has parent types. I have setup the following example in linqpad which demonstrates the problem I am having.
public class MyObject
{
public string PropA { get; set; }
public IList Children { get; set; }
}
public class ChildObject
{
public string PropB { get; set; }
}
var object = new MyObject
{
PropA = "A",
Children = new List() { new ChildObject() { PropB = "B1" } }
};
// query to map properties
var result = from a in object.Children select new { a.PropB };
var result2 = from a in object.Children select new { a };
var result3 = from a in object.Children select new { PropB = "B1" };
How do I get the count of ChildObject in the result variable?
The expected output for the above is
{
PropB = "B1",
Count = 1
}
A:
To get the count of the children you can use a Count() projection in your query to return an object with a single property. For example:
var result = from a in object.Children
select new {
PropB = a.PropB,
Count = a.Children.Count()
};
to go around.
Although I've known that the second half of the 'l' is pronounced longer than the first half, it's still a surprise to hear that it's two syllables as opposed to one. I thought I might be the only one who said that. It may be that the phonological space for the 'l' is more filled up by other sounds. It's easy to get a French speaker to say it that way, since they would pronounce the 01e38acffe
